Aqua Salveo is a South African point-of-use water disinfectant for camping, hiking, boating, travel and emergency water. It is a concentrated metal-salts solution based on copper, zinc and silver ions and contains no chlorine, so treated water stays odourless and tasteless. Add 3 drops (0.09 ml) per litre and wait 30 to 60 minutes before drinking; the maker says treated water stays disinfected for long periods. It is SABS approved and is effective against bacteria including E. coli, Vibrio cholerae, Salmonella and Staphylococcus aureus. It can also be used to rinse fruit and vegetables. The 30 ml dropper bottle treats about 300 litres, enough for a family camping trip or a long hike.
