A large folding pocket knife from Honey Badger Knives, the Johannesburg-based knife brand, with a tan handle. The Wharncleaver blade has a straighter cutting edge and a broad, flat-ground blade that borrows from a cleaver. It slices well and its blunter tip lowers the chance of an accidental puncture, which suits everyday carry, food prep at the braai, opening boxes and general cutting. The blade is 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, which takes a keen edge, is easy to resharpen and resists rust, 3.0mm thick. It opens with a flipper tab and runs on two opposing roller bearings holding 18 ball bearings, for a smooth, quick action. The handle is fibre-reinforced nylon (FRN) with a honeycomb pattern that grips in any direction and resists slipping when wet, and the slim, light build sits comfortably in a pocket. The pocket clip can be moved for left- or right-hand carry. The large size has a 92mm blade, is 117mm long when closed and 210mm open, and weighs 110g.
