The National Geographic 8x40 is a classic, rugged Porro prism binocular for birdwatching, game viewing, hiking and outdoor events. The 8x magnification and 40 mm objective lenses give bright, detailed images, and the Porro prism design gives good depth and a wide view, about 110 m at 1000 m. The BK-7 prisms and multi-coated optics improve brightness and contrast. The rubber-armoured, water-resistant body gives a secure grip, a central focus wheel makes quick adjustments, and a diopter setting suits spectacle wearers. It has a tripod adapter thread for long sessions and focuses down to about 7 m. Weight is about 700 g. A carry strap, case and lens cloth are included.
