Hold the sharpener firmly on the counter, set the heel of the blade in the slot and draw the knife towards you with light, even pressure, repeating a few times. Carbide sharpeners remove steel fast, so they are best for restoring dull everyday knives rather than fine finishing; do not use them on serrated or ceramic blades.
