An Ultra-Edge machete about 22 inches (roughly 55 cm) long overall, with a black-coated steel blade, a black textured grip with a green guard, and a nylon sheath with a belt loop. A machete is the tool for clearing paths and fence lines, cutting back overgrowth and vines, chopping thin branches for the fire and cutting thatch or sugar cane. The long, broad blade does the work through its weight and swing, so let the tool do the cutting and keep the other hand well clear. The coated blade helps against rust; dry and lightly oil it after cutting wet or sappy plants. The sheath protects the edge and makes the machete safe to carry on a belt or stow in the vehicle.
